This Australian dude contracted some rare drug resistant disease so he got quarantined in the hospital. He apparently perfected his rap techniques out of boredom, and wrote a 5 minute song about being quarantined in a hospital. Its pretty funny shit, check it out.
I’d like to do a little album review today. While working today Masta Ace’s Disposable Arts rolled on from my itunes. This wasn’t my first time listening to it, but probably the first time I paid much attention to it, and it reminded me of why I love underground Hip-Hop so much more. The album is very dynamic and he really diversifies his style throughout the album. Masta Ace also does a great job of using metaphor in his lyrics. Disposable arts is a concept album about a guy from Brooklyn getting out of jail and enrolling in a rap school in upstate New York to get away from the streets. If you are into the underground scene then definitely give this one a listen.
Just found this new song by B.o.B called Airplanes. It’s off his new album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray which hits stores on April 27th. Indecently, that is 2 days before B.o.B comes here to Denver! Him and Lupe are throwing down at the Ogden in Denver on the 29th. BE THERE!
So this is bringing it back to highscool, but Swollen Members is still my favorite go to group, especially when I’m feelin the hardcore angry hip-hop. This is the song that got me hooked on S&M, rollin around Anchorage bumpin’ this song. Good times. Swollen Members are originally from Vancouver, BC, and are pretty prominate in the underground scene. If you haven’t heard of them, check out this song. Also, if anyone recognizes the sample they use let me know, I know its a song that my parents used to listen to all the time, Simon and Garfunkel or somthing like that. Anyway, if you recognize it let me know.
My buddy directed me to this mixtape by DJ Amplive of Zion I the other day, and its quality for sure. Its DJ Amplive mixing a bunch of Radiohead songs, which always makes for a good mixtape. The was a free download, but the link seems to be broken, but I’m sure you could torrent it. Anyway, here is one of the tracks that was on there, called Nudez. Enjoy!
Bone Thugs N Harmony member Flesh-N-Bone was arrested last night at his own concert last night. Fucking ridiculous, over 1000 people at the show and 50 pigs decide they are gonna crash it and haul one of the performers away. Why the hell couldn’t they wait until after the show instead of making a huge to do of it? Its needlessly embarrassing for Flesh-N-Bone, ruins a perfectly good concert, and makes people despise our law enforcement system even more.
I can’t really say I’m a fan of Lil Wayne, in fact I usually despise most of his music, but I heard this the other day and loved it. I love the office jingle, the production was sick, and Weezy raps to it well.
FIFA World Cup sponsor Coca-Cola just made K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag the theme song of the World Cup. Its a great song, and especially perfect for something like the world cup, if you havent heard it then take a listen.
If you consider yourself a hip hop enthusiast then you should definitely take a look at this project by artists Kenzo Digital, Joe Bataan, and Victor Quinaz. Although this is a terrible description of the project, it is basically an audio commentary of the hip-hop music scene and all cultural icons associated with the genera, especially the both prestigious and infamous gangster that is popularized in both music and urban culture. At the website you will find an audio download that is about an hour long that, as the site says, should be listened to at night in the quiet of your basement with head phones and a blind fold on. Very cool and abstract, it features all of the classic big name MC’s such as Hov, Biggie, Nas, and many others. Check it out here.
Just found the new music video from Talib and Hi-Tek for their single “In this World” off their upcoming album Revolutions per Minute. Get stoked for this album, its gonna be hot.
For all you cats going out tonight, I got a jam for you. GET WILD!!
Oh my god this kid KILLS it! Only three years old and he’s Jerkin’ like a pro!
Gorillaz just released the music video for Stylo off their new album Plastic Beach. AMAZING, I love it. Without spoiling it too much, it is the most epic car chase scene I’ve seen to date, and stars Bruce Willis being the badass that he is. Also, if you haven’t heard the song, then you are behind the times because its an awesome production.
Probably my favorite song by Lupe Fiasco, called The Instrumental. I was messing around on photoshop with a picture of him and got inspired to post one of his songs. If you have never heard this song, you must listen to it, especially if you’ve got a kickin bass.
